I. Basic information

MSP430G2232IPW14R is a mixed-signal microcontroller launched by Texas Instruments (TI). In this chip model, "MSP430" represents the ultra-low power microcontroller series of Texas Instruments, "G2232" is the specific product model, and "IPW14R" contains the package and other specific information. It belongs to the MSP430G2x32 series, which has a variety of features and is suitable for a variety of application scenarios.

II. Main features

(I) Low power design

Working mode power consumption: supports five low power modes, and has excellent power consumption performance in different modes. In active mode, the current is only 220μA when powered at 1MHz frequency and 2.2V; 0.5μA in standby mode; and as low as 0.1μA in shutdown mode (RAM retention). This low power consumption makes it extremely advantageous in battery-powered devices, and can effectively extend the battery life of the device, such as in portable measurement devices, wearable devices, etc.

Fast wake-up: The time to wake up from standby mode to active mode is less than 1μs, which is achieved by the digitally controlled oscillator (DCO), ensuring that the device can respond quickly to external events and meet application scenarios that require real-time performance.

Adopting a 16-bit RISC architecture with an instruction cycle time of 62.5ns, combined with 16-bit registers and constant generators, it can improve code execution efficiency and effectively handle complex calculations and control tasks. ADC conversion: MSP430G2232IPW14R integrates a 10-bit, 200ksps A/D converter (only available in the MSP430G2x32 series), with internal reference voltage, sample and hold and automatic scanning functions, which can accurately collect analog signals and convert them into digital signals, suitable for temperature, pressure, light and other sensor data acquisition.

Clock module: The basic clock module has rich configurations, with an internal frequency of up to 16MHz, including four calibration frequencies, and an internal very low power low frequency oscillator (VLO), which can provide clock signals for the system in different scenarios. In addition, it supports 32kHz crystals and external digital clock sources to ensure clock stability and diversity.

Other functions: Integrated brownout detector function, when the power supply voltage is lower than the set threshold, it can trigger reset or interrupt in time to protect system data security. It also has on-chip simulation logic, which is implemented through the Spy-Bi-Wire interface, which is convenient for developers to debug and develop, and supports serial on-board programming, without external programming voltage, and can achieve programmable code protection through safety fuses.

3. Pin configuration and function

The chip has a variety of packaging forms, such as 14-pin TSSOP, 20-pin TSSOP, 20-pin PDIP, 16-pin QFN, etc. There are differences in the pin functions of different packages, but the main pin functions include general-purpose input and output (GPIO), timer function pins, communication interface pins, ADC-related pins, clock pins, and reset pins.

GPIO pins: distributed in P1 and P2 ports, some pins have Schmitt trigger input function, which can enhance the signal's anti-interference ability. By configuring the corresponding registers, it can be flexibly set to input or output mode for connecting external devices such as buttons, LEDs, sensors, etc.

Timer pins: related to Timer_A, such as TA0CLK for timer clock input, TA0.0 - TA0.2 and other pins for capture/compare functions to achieve timing, counting and PWM output operations.

Communication pins: In SPI communication, SDO, SDI, and SCLK are used for data output, input, and clock signals respectively; in I2C communication, SCL is the clock line and SDA is the data line. These pins are used for high-speed or multi-device communication with external devices.

ADC pins (MSP430G2x32 series only): ADC10CLK is used for ADC clock input, A0 - A7 are analog signal input channels, VREF +, VREF - are reference voltage input pins for analog signal acquisition and conversion.

Clock pins: XIN, XOUT are used to connect external crystal oscillators to provide a stable clock for the system; ACLK, SMCLK provide clock signals of different frequencies for the system to meet the clock requirements of different modules.

Reset pins: RST/NMI/SBWTDIO are used for reset and non-maskable interrupt functions, and are also used as data input and output pins in Spy - Bi - Wire debugging mode to ensure reliable system startup and exception handling.
